This post contains information on the following:
1. Cleaners on strike
2. One Book One Library project
3. Feedback from the Circulation Forum meeting
1. Cleaners on strike
I am sure that by now, most of you are aware that Elite Cleaners are on strike as from today. Currently only three temporary cleaners have been allocated to the library. This will have a direct impact on the cleanliness of the library and alternative measures are also being discussed - as soon as we have more information, it will be communicated. In the meantime we will make posters to place on the rest-rooms informing our clients of the situation.
2. One Book One Library
Linda, Yvonne and Vivian made a stunning display at the entrance of the library to encourage the UJ community to participate in the project. UJ students and staff will be requested to start reading Devil's Peak as from today and we will receive a visit from the author (Deon Meyer) in October.
Regarding this project, please take note of the following:
- The book is available in three different languages: English, French and Afrikaans (additional Afrikaans copies have been ordered).
- The books will be issued for a period of 21 days to ALL patrons and it is NOT renewable (this is to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to read the book).
- When a copy of this book is returned, it must go back to the display and not to the shelves. I kindly ask Circulation and Shelving staff to assist with this.
- The reading guide will be available within the next two weeks.
Thank you very much to Linda, Yvonne and Vivian for the display.
3. Feedback from the Circulation Forum
As Campus Librarian, I am also the Champion for the Circulation Forum. We had a meeting on 28 July and below you will find a summary of the meeting:
- Currently students with money owed to the library (fines and/or outstanding books) are blocked on the ITS system from re-registration and receiving the academic records. This was implemented successfully in all UJ libraries.
- According to the circulation year plan all expired patron records (with no books or fines attached) had been deleted from the system.
- For quality purposes, all changes/updates on the Innopac system will be done by Carina Malan only.
